Northern Neck Grants, Book V, page 412: 27 Feb 1792, Henry Lee Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia To all whom these presents shall come Greeting Know ye that by virtue of a warrant issued from the last Lord Proprietors office of the Northern Neck and in consideration of the ancient composition of five shillings sterling paid John Snodgrass into the Treasury of this Commonwealth, there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said John Snodgrass, a certain tract or parcel of land containing 34 acres by survey bearing date the 4th day of May 1767, lying and being in the County of Frederick bounded by the lines of David Crockett, John Glend [sic], William Patterson and his own lines on the drains of Opeckon and Beginning at a corner black oak to Crocketts 400 acre patent, extending thence along the patent line, N 50 S 86 poles to Snodgrass's corner white oak and spanish oak in Crocketts line, thence with Snodgrass's line N 32 E 17 poles to Glends corner spanish oak, thence with his line S 56 E 100 poles to Pattersons & Glends corner white oak on a level, thence with Pattersons line S 35 W 200 poles to his corner chesnut tree, thence with his line N 50 W 25 poles Crocketts, Pattersons & Thomas Akins corner hickory, finally with Crocketts line N 40 E 168 poles to the beginning... [Charlou Dolan: Land was often patented or granted to someone after their decease, the land going directly into the estate of the deceased person. We know this grant was to this John because when his son William sells his share on 19 Mar 1794, the deed says, "which said land was granted to John Snodgrass Sen'r by Henry Lee, Esqr., Gov. of Va., by deed bearing date 27 Feb 1792, which said land was secured to William Snodgrass by the last will and testament of the said John Snodgrass duly proven and recorded in the county court of Berkeley.". All the surviving children (apparently John was by then deceased) sold their brother Benjamin's share of this grant on 18 Feb 1806.] .

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Agnes by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Agnes:

See my comment attached to the photo attached to this person. There is a danger involved in looking at an index and not at the actual record. Someone jumped to the conclusion that since Agnes Patton was the administrator of the estate of John Snodgrass, this meant she was his daughter, when in actual fact she was not any relative, she was his principal creditor, i.e. he died owing her more money than he owed anyone else. Therefore, her maiden name was NOT SNODGRASS, and any further attempts to claim her maiden name was Snodgrass need to be backed up with documents. If someone can find her actual marriage, I would be ecstatic, but I've looked through hundreds of books and gone to many courthouses in Virginia (including Augusta County) without finding this supposed marriage.

Question: Where is this marriage of Agnes Snodgrass to John J. Patton found? Because when I looked for marriages of Snodgrasses in Virginia, I did not find it in Augusta Co. or in any other county in Virginia.

You know, you could just ask me, Charlou Dolan, about these families. First of all, the John Snodgrass we are talking about here, who had the land grant, did NOT have a daughter Agnes. His children are all very well documented with actual records, which I have, and which I am happy to share. You just have to ask. Second, the connection of this line in Virginia to any Snodgrass in Scotland is purely imaginary. When you do genealogy, you have to be able to document your family tree -- you can't just grab names at random from different places in Europe (Scotland, mainly, for Snodgrasses, but if there is any evidence, I've been unable to find it. I will share my hundreds of hours of Scottish research also. You just have to ask! < [email address removed] gt;

Why debate over imaginary lines?

Please give this profile some thought, more likely the John Snodgrass, father of

Agnes.

Snodgrass-949 and Snodgrass-773 appear to represent the same person because: Same husband and same father. Need to resolve conflict on birth date.
