Employment

He started his working life at Elms a retail shop in the town often having to to use a horse and trap to visit farms and peddle his goods. It was not long before he established his own retail business called T Snook's in East Street. During the second world war he was serving in the home guard, part of his duties was to patrol the entire Chesil Beach coastline. Fortunately he was out on patrol when his shop was destroyed by a German bomber. His son Thomas inhertied the business, he opened a new shop futher down the street. Tom won the Royal Humane Society award for his courage in saving lives of persons who were in danger of drowning.

Tom was an avid cyclist, he won the Shipton Hill climb in record time, he was presented with a gold fob-watch for his accomplishments. Snook-1706 13:41, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
