Biography

Rhoda Geraldine Snow b: 02 OCT 1902, Guildford, Surrey, England, christened on 18 November 1902 in Guildford, Surrey & died on 7 May 1981 in Ferndown, Dorset, England, married Dr. Alexander Clarke Begg O.B.E. (known as Clarke) on 9 March 1936 in Kensington, London, He died 17 December 1941 and buried in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, & she died 7 May 1981 in Fernwood, Dorset, England. He was one of 8 children of Alexander Campbell Begg, member of the Otago Harbour Board, who was b, 1839 in the parish of Liberton, near Edinburgh, Scotland and immigrated to N.Z. in 1859 by ship on board the “Alpine”, landing at Port Chalmers 3 years prior to the Otago Goldfields. 3 of the 5 sons became doctors, Campbell Begg spent 2 years as a Mine doctor in Johannesburg before returning to Britain, he had been honoured by the British & French governments, promoted by his Army superiors and revered by the soldiers he treated, he died age 39 in his home in Twickenham, Charles Mackie Begg graduated MB, ChB with distinction in 1903 following this with the M.D. in 1905 and a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1906, Robert Campbell Begg also became a Doctor taking up a position as medical officer with Barnato Consolidated Mines in the Transvaal, he eventually became the President of the Afrikaans Medical Society in 1951, he died in Johannesburg, the 3rd doctor was Alexander Clarke Begg known as Clarke, spent most of his life in Swansea, in West Wales, in keeping with the family tradition, he was described as being “stern in manner and very firm in his adherence to his considered views”.

Rhoda was born in 1902. She was the daughter of Thomas Snow and Charlotte-Geraldine Coke. She passed away in 1981.
