Biography

Birth

Sarah Jane Snow was born to Bathsheba Parmenter and Calvin Snow on July 23, 1831, but her birthplace could not be ascertained yet. The census schedules of 1850 and 1870 indicated that she was born in either New Hampshire or Massachusetts.^[1] However, the census schedule of 1860 indicated that she was born in Ohio. It could be possible that she was born in any of these three states when her parents were in transit between Massachusetts and Michigan after their marriage in Boston, Massachusetts in 1821 and their residence in Nottawa Township, St. Joseph County, Michigan in 1840. It could be ascertained where her family lived before 1840.

The census schedule of 1850 might help to ascertain about where and when her siblings were born, and it could help determine her birthplace. Her oldest brother, Edward M Snow born about 1829 in Massachusetts, her younger brother, Charles M Snow born about 1834 in New Hampshire, and her youngest sister, Emily J Snow born about 1835 in Ohio. She was born between Edward M Snow's birth and Charles Snow's birth. It could be ascertained that she was born either in Massachusetts or in New Hampshire.^[1]

Her daughter, Mrs. Ida Elizabeth Carr's death record showed that her mother was born in Boston, Massachusetts.^[2]

Rowley M Reid to Sarah Jane Snow. This may certify that Mr. Rowley M Reid aged twenty five years and Miss Sarah Jane Snow aged twenty years both of the township of Mendon St. Joseph County and State of Michigan were joined in (matrimony) marriage by me in this first day of January One thousand Eight hundred and fifty two. In presence of Calvin Snow and Bartholomew Snow Herschel Filler, Minister. Filed for record Oct. 6th 1852 C.D. Bennet, County Clerk.^[3]
