He was the son of Reverend Villiers Henry Plantagenet Somerset and Frances Dorothy Ley.^[1]He was born on the 29th of January 1848 in Kenn, Devon, England.^[2]He was married twice, firstly to firstly, Mary de Chair Denshire, daughter of Reverend W. C. Denshire, on the 3rd of September 1889, in Epsom, Surrey, England.^[3]He married, secondly, Isabel Maud Courtney, daughter of Frederick Courtney, on the 14th of November 1893, in Wandsworth, London, England.^[4]He died on the 2nd of March 1928 at age 80 in Torquay, Devon, England .^[5][6]
