Biography

Captain Thomas Sondes

Thomas Sondes was born about 1610 the third son of Sir Richard Sondes of Throwley and of Sheldwich, Kent, and his 2nd wife Katherine Hayward.^[1][2]

Aspects of his career were recorded in a narrative by his elder half brother Sir George Sondes.^[3]

Death and Monument

At St Michael Throwley, Kent:^[4]

"Arms.—SONDES, a mullet of six points for difference.

This coat occurs on a mural monument to Captain Thomas Sondes, third son of Richard Sondes by his second wife, the daughter of Sir Rowland Hayward. At the age of 17 he went for a soldier in the Low Countries for 30 years. He died 13 October 1668, in his 59th year".

NB There is no record of his burial at Throwley, Kent.^[5]
