Obituary, Kitsap Sun, May 18, 2005: Mark L. Soyat, 88, of Manchester died Saturday of natural causes at Life Care Center in Port Orchard. Born in Manchester to Anthony and Victoria (Starcevich) Soyat, he graduated from South Kitsap Union High School in 1935. On April 9, 1946, he married Lorena "Ned" Futrell in Natchitoches, La. Mr. Soyat served with the Army from 1941 to 1946, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He went on to work as an electrician at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years, retiring in 1972. He also worked as a commercial fisherman along with his wife. They caught salmon from their boat, The Nancy W, in Neah Bay, selling to buyers and sharing with family members. Mr. Soyat was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 239 in Bremerton. He loved working on The Nancy W. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1984; two brothers, John and David Soyat; and a sister, Tonie Allen. Surviving are a sister, Mary H. Soyat of Tacoma; two nieces, Lisa Clark and her husband, Terry, of Manchester and Candy Ford of Bellingham; and three nephews, Mike Allen of Juneau, Alaska, Jeff Soyat of Duvall and Dana Soyat of Port Orchard. No public services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to VFW Post 239, 190 S. Dora, Bremerton, WA 98312. Arrangements are by Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
