* Both John Daly and Tom Kiely "deemed" to have represented Great Britain and Ireland but travelled independently, had no involvement with the British team and considered themselves to be representing Ireland. See profiles.

Wilfred Holroyd was from Manchester and arguably the only British representative at the Games!

Although... he actually became a US citizen in 1910 and reportedly renounced his British citizenship in 1900, the year he settled in the United States. Wikipedia show him as representing the US, though Olympedia continue to represent him as British. It would seem that in his own mind, as with Daly and Kiely, he was not representing Great Britain (and Ireland) whatever the records say.
