Company Information
- Company D was mustered in on 21 Aug 1863 at Camp Delaware, Ohio. They mustered out on 20 Sep 1865 in Carolina City, North Carolina. There was a large group of men who had enlisted for a term of one year in 1864 and they were mustered out in late Aug 1865 in New Berne, North Carolina, just a few weeks before the rest of the company was mustered out.
- Company D soldier James H Bronson (1838-1884) received a Medal Honor. At the time of the Battle of Chaffin's Farm he was a first sergeant. After the company's officers were killed or wounded in a charge, Bronson took charge of the company and led it gallantly in the rest of the battle.
- 25 men from Company D died while serving.
- Lorenzo Hogan was killed in action.
- Samuel Jordan was executed by the Confederate Army in retaliation for the execution of Daniel Bright, who had been tried and found guilty of participating in a guerilla unit fighting against the Union Army.
- 23 others died of disease
- 11 were discharged on a surgeon's certificate of disability
Roster
- The roster below is based on the Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio in the War of the Rebellion, 1861-1866, Volume I, pages 603-605.
