Location: Ulster County, New York
Brabant, New York
Brabant is the former name of a place in Ulster County, New York. The name appears in some Kingston, New York, church records and other genealogical sources.
In a footnote, Hoes described Brabant as "A local designation, yet prevalent, for a portion of the old town of Kingston, on the northern side of the present Esopus creek."[1]
A "Map of the Farm of Jacob Burhans, Dec'd [sic] at Brabant as divided amongst the heirs, 25 April, 1812"[2] shows a location near the confluence of Saw Kill and Sopus Creek (i.e. Esopus Creek). This places Brabant north-northwest of the city of Kingston, between Kingston and Saugerties.
