History

The Cambridge Plantation was located in Abbeville County, South Carolina. It was owned by Sampson V. Cain. We know very little about this plantation except it's location and some of the slaves that lived upon it.

Sampson V. Cain died 6 Jul 1858. In his will, written on 26 Jun 1858, and proven 5 Oct 1858, he names only half of the enslaved population on the plantation.[1][2][3]

There were 23 persons named and recorded in Cain's will. Their names as follows:[1]

Cain's will also states that all slaves not bequeathed above were to be kept together on the Cambridge Plantation. Their names are unknown.

Census

In 1850 Sampson V. Cain had 50 slaves listed under his name.[4]
