History

Robert Habersham completed his purchase of Causton's Bluff Plantation in 1852. This included the Deptford Plantation, originally called Lapithowly.^[1]

On the 1850 Slave Schedule he is recorded as owning 261 slaves on three properties. If this is the largest of the three, then this might have been Plantation #1 with 127 slaves.

Freedmen's Bureau Labor Contract

On 15 Mar 1866, Robert Habersham's employee, John A Oliver, made a labor contract with 7 freedmen to work for 12 months on Habersham's Deptford Plantation in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia.
