History

Robert Habersham completed his purchase of Causton's Bluff Plantation in 1852. This included the Deptford Plantation, originally called Lapithowly.[1]

On the 1850 Slave Schedule he is recorded as owning 261 slaves on three properties. If this is the largest of the three, then this might have been Plantation #1 with 127 slaves.

I was just looking at the Freedman's Bureau records for Affie Grant (Grant-19038). On Roll 08: Savannah, Georgia; Jan 10, 1866-Dec 17, 1870, she appears as account number 1394. She reports that as of 6 Jan 1869 she works at Delford, Habersham Place, 3 Miles From Savannah. If we wanted to find all the freedwomen who worked there, would we have to go page by page through the Bureau records?

Thanks Beverly. Can you send me, Pocock-248 via PM, the link to the Freedmen records you are referring to?
