Goals

This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about one surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect.

We welcome the research of all Wiki Genealogists who are interested in the surnames DOTSON or DODSON.

Task List

1. Work cooperatively together with other Dotson profile managers to create the best Dotson documentation possible.

2. Search out original rather than derivative documentation and add sources to Dotson profiles.

3. Write comprehensive, well-sourced biographies for Dotson profiles.

4. Check for duplicates and request merges.

Starting Points

This is a collection of DOTSON / DODSON research papers done by others. Give full credit for anything used from these superb sources.

Hi - I am researching my wife's family and hitting a bit of a wall that I feel like I should be able to figure out (but there's a lot of bad info out there).

Her GGGmother is Alicinda Bladen (nee Dodson) 1830 -1928. Her parents are Thomas E Dodson (~1799-1881) and Nancy "Ann" Keene (Dodson). Thomas and Nancy had eight children and lived in the Lee Township part of Fairfax County on a farm for a long time. The US Census has the family there from 1840-1880. But I can't find Thomas prior to that. There are so many Dodsons throughout virginia, especially in the south central and southwest part of the state. But the Fairfax County / Alexandria contingent is elusive. I see a bunch of references to someone named Thomas IGNATIUS Dodson but I think Thomas and Ignatius are different people. Anyway, any hint in the right direction is most appreciated!

My ggrand father was James Monroe Dotson. B. 1854 Alabama. D. 1940 Florida. We are his Florida family. Prior to Florida we do not have info. He did not tell his family anything except he had a sister named Mary. Rumor is he ran away from home and then married someone that might have died in childbirth then he moved to Fl. In 1877. And married my g grandmother.. He was in Alabama, and maybe Mississippi and Missouri. He was a traveling preacher.

Sandy, Welcome aboard! As of now, it's just you and me. Please add any research info that would be of value to others. The research papers I have listed give valuable data. Hope we can get more people interested and active. This is my first attempt at managing Name Study Groups, but I have hopes for good membership and participation.

Good to hear from you.
