About the Project

The Holloway Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Holloway name and its related variant spellings of genealogical significance. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Holloway name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (e.g. England Holloways), by time period (18th Century Holloways), or by topic (Holloway DNA, Holloway Occupations, Holloway Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Also see the related surnames and surname variants.

There is a persistent story in my family (mother's side) that one of our ancestors was married to an American Indian. My line goes back through Ohio, Point Pleasant W. Va, and western Virginia during the colonial period - John Holloway (1771-1853) is as far back as I've been able to trace. So far no variations on Holloway spelling. Anyone heard this tale?

Researching my Holloway line. Have the line back to John Holloway b 1554 whom I think married Mary Hadly. Origins seem to be from Upper Arley on the banks of the Severn River

Have you ever done a YDNA test from Family Tree DNA. I am the admin for the Holloway project. We are trying to pinpoint specific families to DNA results. Who is your oldest ancestor in the US? Is there one? Use this link if you are interested in getting a test and join our project at the same time. https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/holloway/about Just click Join and then click order test. Scroll down the next page to the first group of tests and order the 37 marker YDNA test. This is the minimum needed to match to a specific family. If you have a test already but are not in the project yet, Click join and then sign in and you will be a member now.

My maternal 3rd great grand grandparents are John B Holloway (1800-1875) and his wife Dorcas Beck b(1809-1885) to my mother Thelma V Holloway (Bailey) (3-1999)… I would be honored to join the study.

I have Mary Holloway born 1650 in South Molton, Devonshire, England. Died January 2, 1721 in Molland, Devonshire. She is my 7x great grandmother, her father was John Holloway born about 1620. Can I add them to the study?
