About the Project

The Jordan Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Jordan name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Jordan name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Jordans), by time period (18th Century Jordans), or by topic (Jordan DNA, Jordan Occupations, Jordan Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Hello. My 2nd great grandmother was Elizabeth Jordan. According to the census returns shes was born c.1845 in Brighton, Sussex, England. I haven't been able to verify that birth or any facts about her childhood. From 1871 until her death in 1906 she lived in Leeds, Yorkshire, England where she and my 2nd g grandfather, John Hughes ran lodging houses in Fox & Grapes Yard near Kirkgate. Family stories give a different account of her childhood and she may have been born in Ireland and brought to England as a baby. She was apparently brought up in a convent and she learned her domestic skills from the sisters there. I hope that the "Jordan" one name project might help me to find out more about her and her family.

Greetings! My last name is Jordan and my ancestors are from the Louisa KY area. Therefore, I am interested in finding out more about my family and making connections to folks who may be related to me. My paternal grandfather was Orville Jordan who is buried in Globe Cemetery in Greenup County. His father was Greenville Jordan who is buried in the Greenville Jordan Cemetery on Little Cat Road near Louisa. I believe that Greenville's dad was Jonas Jordan, although the records are not solid about that. The first Jordan of my lineage to come from VA to KY was Captain William Jordan.
