Larry's current to-do list.

  • Verify connections and sources for each person in tree.
  • Find the parents of Isaac Hamilton.
There is an Isaac N. Hamilton that is often said to be my Isaac Hamilton, but I have yet to see any clear explanation of that. Places of birth, etc.
My father suspected Isaac's father was Asa or his parents could have been Oliver E. Hamilton and Susan Henderson. I don't know where my father found those names to suspect a connection.
  • Verify the marriage of Isaac Hamilton & Abigail Martin
I found a marriage record in the same county Franklin Pierce Hamilton was married. Do I have the correct Isaac and Abigail to allow further progress?
  • Verify the birthplace and parents of Abigail Martin.
A couple of trees on Ancestry have some different information that I have that on the surface seems promising. More review is needed.
  • Verify the birthplace, date of death, place of burial, and parents of Mary P. (Hill) Hamilton, married to Franklin Pierce Hamilton son of Isaac & Abigail.
I have seen Mary conflated with other Mary Hill's and Mary Hamilton's so care is needed to establish certain facts.
  • Find Franklin & Mary on the 1910 Census:
1900 Census they were in Lawrence Ward 3, Douglas County, Kansas. In 1912 they were living in Sarcoxie, Jasper County, Missouri when Franklin died. They moved a lot between censuses so it makes it challenging. I'm hoping improvements to what is availabel online will help solve that.
  • Find the paper trail that explains the Y-DNA connection to the English/Inglis surname.
I'm also focused on trying to break the brick wall of my oldest known Hamilton ancestor. Dad participated in the Hamilton DNA surname study. We matched with Grandpa's cousins. The other closest matches are with the surname English/Inglis, so some sort of adoption or other non-paternal event about 1750 or so. That's about 80 years before my oldest Hamilton ancestor was born. The challenge is to find the paper trail to explain that DNA connection....

My Connection to J.R.R. Tolkien

Mom told the story of my maternal great-grandmother Lena Merle (Robertson) Gibson was complaining to my mother about why we had three generations of Lawrence and no one called them Lawrence. (I'm named after my father, as a Junior. He has always been Larry and they called me Larry from the start.)

Mom wasn't having any of it and she replied, "You started it when you named your son Lawrence and called him Buster." My great-uncle Buster AKA Lawrence Robert "Buster" Gibson was always known as Buster, even though he signed his name as Lawrence R. Gibson.

(A couple weeks ago, one of my cousins gave me an old dictionary that they got at a yard sale with his signature. Grandpa outlived 3 wives, the first two dying when their respective children were very young. We all knew my grandmother as Grandma. This cousin descends from his first wife and thought I should have it.)
