Part way through working on a 2014 Gedcom (McCabe) we realised the possible problems of persons named Seccombe (along with other LNAB) born in the 17th, 18th & 19th centuries in the area around Calstock (South East Cornwall) and Tavistock (West Devon).

Other villages in the same vicinity include Gunnislake, Whitchurch, Stoke Climsland, Milton Abbot and west is Liskeard & St Ive. The River Tamar splits the area.

For anyone not familiar with England, Calstock is 17 mile north of Plymouth (South Coast of England)

This page will list the problems regarding the multiple duplicate LNAB and Proper First Name.

Example - between 1837 & 1899 in Cornwall & Devon there were 15 "John Seccombe" born.

Six of those were born between 1837 & 1850.

The 1837-50 number increases to 10 if there is another christian name.

The highlighting moment came when John Seccombe wed Nanny Bray in 1849.

Then it was discovered a John Seccombe (previous generation) wed a Nancy Bray.

Seccombe 1790-1800

Around 1800 there are possibly two John Seccombe born in the area of Calstock.

From the original gedcom states his parents as Stephen Seccombe and Jenny nee Thomas

These baptisms clearly show on the original documents the parents are Stephen & Jenny (spelt) Secombe

Stephen baptised 15 May 1791

Stephen baptised 15 March 1795

The entry immediately above 15 March is a John son of John and Ann Secombe

A baptism source dated 2 June 1799 parents Stephen & Jane Secomb - spelling as Secomb.

The original profile had a birth year of 1799
