There are, confusingly, two places called Thornton in Yorkshire. One is in West Yorkshire, and one in East Yorkshire.

Thornton in West Yorkshire

This Thornton is usually known simply as Thornton. It is a village within the metropolitan borough of the city of Bradford, lying to the west of Bradford. It was incorporated into the city of Bradford in 1899.[1]

The Brontës were from this Thornton.

When selecting this location in WikiTree use the appropriate variant of Thornton, Yorkshire.

Thornton in East Yorkshire

This Thornton is a village and civil parish about 3½ miles SW of the town of Pocklington. In order to distinguish it from the village in West Yorkshire it is known either as Thornton by Pocklington, or Thornton on Spalding Moor, being about 5 miles NW of Holme on Spalding Moor.[2]

When selecting this location in WikiTree use the appropriate variant of Thornton with Allerthorpe, Yorkshire. Note, though, that Allerthorpe can be selected in its own right.
