Slaves in Deed Records

On 11 May 1830, Daniel Blue, Jr., grantor, of Camden County, Georgia, sold to Alexander Bachlott, grantee of St. Marys, Camden County, Georgia, for $400.00 the slave Silvia, about 15 years-old.[2]

On 05 December 1839, Francis Rudulph, John T. Rudulph (in right of John and Lewis Bachlott) and Thomas D. Hawkins,sold to Alexander Bachlott for the estate of the late John Bachlott, for $450.00 for slaves Ben and Sally.[3]


On 08 May 1846, Alexander Bachlott, grantor, of Columbia County, Florida, gifted slaves to his wife and children through a trustee named James King, Sr. trustee for Emily Bachlott and children Eleanor Ann, Alexander, Joseph Cunnard, Emily Sophia, John Bessent, Mary Cunnard and Jane Elizabeth, grantee. For in consideration of "love and affection" for wife and children :

  • for Emily Bachlott, slaves Louisa, 43 years-old; Prisilla, 25 years-old; John, 7 years-old; Rosetar, 4 years-old; Andrew, 3 years-old; Permeter, 3 years-old;
  • for Eleanor Ann: Gincy, 16 years-old; Bill, 12 years-old;
  • for Alexander: Sam, 25 years-old; Amelia, 20 years-old;
  • for Joseph Cunnard: Alonzo, 15 years-old; Amy, 25 years-old;
  • for Emily Sophia: Adam, 25 years-old; Louisa, 8 years-old;
  • for John Bessent: Harry, 10 years-old; Betty, 13 years-old; Seal(?), 3 years-old;
  • for Jane Elizabeth: George, 8 years-old; Charlot, 6 years-old.
  • Mary was named in the deed as one his children but no slaves were designated for her.[4]
