Other Paperwork

The following enslaved were listed in the probate records of Eliza and her husband Ezekiel. The papers state that these are "Barksdale estate". Eliza's brother's, Thomas and George Barksdale, at their deaths, bequeathed their plantations to her. This is most likely where these enslaved came from.[8][9]

In 1860 these enslaved were to be sold/partitioned with their values, some listed as families.[10][11]

Census

After her husband's death, the 1830 census[12] and 1840 census[13] listed the number of enslaved in her household during those census years.

In 1850 slave schedule in Pickens County, South Carolina listed her with 2 different pages for the enslaved, most likely the cottage property where she lived, and the plantation property (Hopewell?).[14][15]
