Mystery of the New Netherlands Vrooms

There is a Y-line break in the Corssen/Vroom line somewhere between Cornelius Corssen (bef.1645-1693) and Hendrik Corneliszoon Vroom (bef.1683-bef.1769)

Descendants of Cornelis Corssen don't share the same paternal line as descendants of his nephew Hendrick Vroom.

Possibilities and Testing Strategies

  • Cornelis Corssen was not the son of Cors Pietersen. In order to confirm if either Cornelis or Hendrick were not the son of Cors we would need to find descendants of Cors's third son Pieter to test. As of late 2023 there were no descendants of Pieter in the Corson FTDNA Project.
If you are a male line descendant of Pieter Corssen (bef.1651-1696) please join the Corson FTDNA Project. We need you!
  • Hendrick Corssen was not the son of Cors Pietersen. Again, we'd need descendants of Pieter to test. If those descendants matched one of the other brothers we would assume that the non-matching brother would have a different father.
If you are a male line descendant of Pieter Corssen (bef.1651-1696) please join the Corson FTDNA Project. We need you!
  • Hendrick Vroom was not the son of Hendrick Corssen. To test this possibility we would need descendants of Hendrick Vroom's brothers to test.
If you are a male line descendant of any of the following (or any other if any exist) brothers of Hendrick Vroom please join the FTDNA Vroom Project, the Corson FTDNA Project, and the Boyd FTDNA Project!
Brothers of Hendrick Vroom:
Corsen Vroom (bef.1677-)
Hans Corssen (abt.1685-)
Reyste Hendrickse (Corssen) Vroom (abt.1688-)
Alfred Corssen (bef.1690-)
  • Other Testers. We are looking to replace our missing kits and add to the lineage. If you are a descendant of any of Hendrick Vroom' sons please test and join all three Projects.

Results

At one time the Corson FTDNA Project had 5 participants that were descended from Hendrik Corneliszoon Vroom (bef.1683-bef.1769). Three of those participants had tests done outside of FTDNA and those tests are now unavailable. We are working to recreate what we had and to expand the Project to include not only descendants of Hendrick but also descendants of his brothers and uncles and, indeed, all Vrooms who would like to participate.

Original Corson Project: The original five were labeled as R-FGC12774.
Start of the Vroom Project: The two remaining participants were designated Haplogroup R-FT231063.
18 Apr 2024: The arrival of Participant 3 caused participant 2 to split from participant 1. Together particpants 2 and 3 are now Haplogroup R-FT252459.

Boyd Matches: The Boyd matches are included here because the block tree suggests the surname of Participants 1, 2, and 3 changed from Boyd to Vroom sometime around 8 generations ago.
