Thomas married Catherine Humstone on 9 February 1761 in Aldford, Cheshire. The bishop's transcript of the parish register records "Thomas Speed of the parish of Tilston & Catherine Humerstone of the parish of Aldford married by Banns ye 3d day of February".[1]
He was buried on 5 September 1805 at Aldford, Cheshire, and entered in the burial register as "Thomas Speed of Aldford".[2]
He left a will dated 22 May 1805, which described him as "Thomas Speed of Aldford Hall in the
County of Chester Farmer". His will referred to two properties: (1) his "Interest in the Farm which [he held] under the Right Honorable Earl Grosvenor" and (2) his "Leasehold Estate under Samuel Holt of Churton in the County of Chester Esquire".[3]
He divided his estate between:
his eldest son John Speed -- to receive £460 and a share of his farm
his daughters Mary, Elizabeth and Catherine Speed -- to receive £200 each and a share of his farm
his wife Catherine -- to receive an a annuity of £15 oer year
his son Samuel Speed -- to receive £10 and his leasehold estate held under Samuel Holt of Churton
his son Thomas -- to receive one shilling
his son Charles Speed -- to receive such sum of money which, together with the sums already paid to him, amounted to £700[3]
His will was proved on 15 February 1806 by his sons John Speed and Samuel Speed, the two executors.[3]
