Biography

Moses was born in or around 1775. He had migrated to what would become Alabama before 1813 (His son, Robert, was born in Madison County in January of 1813). He appears to have died before 1840.

Both the Bible of Moses's grandson Rev. Robert Andrew Speer, and the genealogy prepared by R.C. Speer list Moses's father as Robert and describe his travels from North Carolina, through Georgia and ultimately to Madison County, Alabama (although still technically part of Spain at the time). They differ in the description of Moses's wife but the family Bible lists her more definitively as Elizabeth .

He mustered in as a Private of the 16th Regiment (Lieutenant Colonel Charles Burrus) of the Mississippi Militia to fight in the War of 1812.

In 1830, Moses appears to be living with his wife Elizabeth, and their children Parmelia, Robert, Moses, Mary Ann, and James. They also kept one female slave (age 10 - 24). His eldest daughter Catherine had left home and married.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Moses by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Moses:
