Biography
Ellen Spencer was born at Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, England in 1888[1]. She was the daughter of John Spencer and Elizabeth (Waring) Spencer.
In 1891, she lived with her parents John & Elizabeth Spencer at Forest Street, Sutton in Ashfield, where her father was a hosiery factory hand. She also lived with her brothers, Arthur (8) and Edward. (5)[2]
The 1901 census shows Ellen (aged 12) living on Forest Street with her parents, her siblings Edward, Thomas, John and Hilda, and her half brothers, Henry Waring and Arthur Waring.[3]
On the 1911 census, Ellen (aged 22) was living on Forest Street with her widowed mother Elizabeth and her siblings Thomas, John and Hilda.[4]
She married Frank Needham on the 30th September 1911 at St Mary's Church, Sutton in Ashfield.[5] She was a 22 year old spinster of 33 Forest Street, and the daughter of John Spencer, hosier.[6]
