Lady Sybil Mary St. Clair-Erskine was born on 20 August 1871. She was the daughter of Robert Francis St. Clair-Erskine, 4th Earl of Rosslyn and Blanche Adeliza Fitzroy.
Renowned for her beauty, she was one of the first aristocratic ladies to use makeup, which was taboo at the time. She was a member of The Souls, a social club made up of clever men and pretty women, a society where politics were not to be discussed.
She married Lt.-Col. Anthony Mildmay Julian Fane, 13th Earl of Westmorland (the son of Colonel Francis William Henry Fane, 12th Earl of Westmorland and Lady Adelaide Ida Curzon) on 28 May 1892. As a result of her marriage Sybil was styled as Countess of Westmorland.
They had the following children:
She died on 21 July 1910 at age 38 and was buried at Rosslyn Chapel, Roslin, Midlothian, Scotland[1].
