George Colton Steele was born in 1817 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the son of Josiah Steele II and Hannah Matilda (Osborne) Steele. The 1880 and 1890 census has him living in Flagg, Ogle, Illinois. He died in 1903 in Washington, Kansas and is buried in Rochelle, Ogle, Illinois.
