Lisl Steiner was an Austrian-American photographer, photojournalist, and documentary filmmaker. She was known for her work from the 1950s-1970s.
Her family immigrated to Argentina in 1938, fleeing from the Nazis. She moved to New York in 1960.
Her most famous photos were of Fidel Castro when he visited the United Nations, legendary musician Louis Armstrong, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis during the state funeral of her husband U.S. President John F. Kennedy, and of U.S. President Richard Nixon. Her work can be seen in Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, and Life Magazine.
