Biography

James Steinhoff is mentioned in the 1852 Will of his father, Benjamin Steinhoff, and received 40£.

I do believe James Steinhoff married 1. Bridget Carroll before 1849 and had one son John Henry Steinhoff born 1849 Ontario, Canada. John Henry Steinhoff married Rosetta Jane Norton 11 Jul 1870 . Two sons: William Henry Steinhoff b.1872 and John Wesley Steinhoff b. 1877. These children were raised by their mother Rosetta and step-father Elijah Williams. No further record of John Henry Steinhoff seems to be available in Canada after the birth of his children but there is a John Henry Steinhoff, born 1851, to USA 1880, born Ontario, in Michigan, married a Zelphia Bow. His 1908 marriage does not give any insight as to his parents though. His death says father is John.
