Biography
Jean Anna Stephen, 1736-1774, was the daughter of Andrew Stephen (b. 1705, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire) and Jean Muirson (b. Gartly, Aberdeenshire). Jean was born in Gartly. She married George Balgowan on 24 July 1759 in Gartly, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. They had at least two sons. Jean died in 1774 in Rhynie and Essie, Aberdeenshire. [1] [2] [3] [4]
George Balgowan and Jean Stephen are mentioned in the birth record of their son, William [5]; and that of their son, Robert Balgowan. [6]
This family tree [7], with the same basic data (dates, places, parents’ names), shows that Jean Anna Stephen and George Balgowan had six children, born between 1760 and 1774: James, 1760; George, 1764; William first quarter of 1767; Anna, Dec. 1767; Thomas, 1772; and Robert, 1774. Anna and her husband George both died in 1774, the same year their last child was born.
