Zachariah was born in 1787 in Pendleton, South Carolina. He was the son of a John Stephens. Zachariah died 1881 in Itawamba County, Mississippi.[1]
Zachariah Stephens owned the Plantation on which Stephens Cemetery is located. Zachariah, his wife, Tabitha (Powell), and sons Abel Bee, Green Sheldon, James Milton, James Riley, Reddon Byrd, Nathaniel, daughter Elizabeth, and son Zachariah came to Itawamba County about 1844, and settled West of the Tomigbee River.
Stephens Cemetery earliest burials date back to the mid 1800's.
