In 1851, the family was living in Portland Township, Frontenac County, with James Bradford listed as a Widower and Ann (Sterritt) Bradford not listed. The family and four younger children are listed together, as Presbyterians. [5]
In the same 1851 Census, on a neighbouring page, but apart from the rest of the Bradford Family, a Catharine Bradford (18 yrs old, born in Ireland, Presbyterian, Single) is listed immediately after James O'Connor (20 yrs old, born in Ireland, Catholic, Single). These individuals are listed immediately after eight members of the Spike family, but whereas the Spikes are listed as "Residents" and "Members," Catharine Bradford and James O'Connor are listed as "Residents" and "Not Members." They may have been boarding with the Spike family. It is not known if they were part of the family of James Bradford and Ann Sterritt. [12][13]
