Caroline was born in 1850. Her parents were George Stevenson and Anna Maria Cookes.[1]
In 1851 the Steveson family lived at Hawkhurst, Kent. Caroline was still a baby and the youngest child in the family of George and Ana Maria Stevenson. The other children in the family were Anna, (6), George (5), Marianne (4), Florence (3), and Montagu (2). Although Caroline was born in Kent, the birth places of family members show that they had lived mainly in in the south west of England, but that 3 year old Florence, had been born in Italy. The family also had a visitor when the census was taken. She was Marie Rufenacht (27) who had been born in Italy. The family had four servants, Sarah Durward, Elizabeth Durward, Frances Selby and Ellen Butcher. [2]
Caroline married George William Addson on 30 June 1875 at Kensington, Middlesex.[3]
In 1881 they lived at 20, Elm Park Gardens, Chelsea, London. George and Caroline had three children, two sons, George (4) and Arthur (0), and a daughter Violet (3). Living with them are Caroline's parents George R Stevenson (age 64 and J P For Kent) and Annie M D Stevenson (54) and her brother, Montague C T, Stevenson, a Wine Merchant. The family's four servants were Elizabeth Johnston (Domestic Servant and Nurse), Annie Johnstone (Domestic Servant and Nurse), Rhoda Clement (Cook) and Jane Fielder (Housemaid).[4]
In 1891 Carloine lived with her husband, George, a Major in the Royal Engineers, and her children George (14), Violet (13), Gladys (8), Aubrey (6), Marie (5) at Courtfield Gardens, Kensington, London. The family butler was Robert Davidson, Rose Smith was Cook, Annie Hancock was Nurse and Ellen Jiles and Mary Thurgood were Housemaids.[5]
The 1911 census finds George and Caroline living at 16 Ashburn Place, South Kensington, London with their daughters Gladys Ethel (28), Muriel (25) and Violet Florence (33). George in 61 and Carline is 60. The census shows that they have been married 35 years and have 6 living children. The family had a cook, Catherine Dunne and three servants Sarah Grantham, Alexander Hunt and Janey Wells, [6]
She passed away in 1938, age 88.[7]
