Biography

Robert was born on 30 September 1747 according to records on Ancestry.

Robert, son of William, was baptised on 9 October 1747 in Berwick Upon Tweed, Northumberland, England.[1]

Robert married Elizabeth Chater on 5th January 1775 at Hackney, Middlesex, England[3]. . He was a minister in the Congregational Church and she came from a nonconformist family.

Elizabeth died in 1779 and Robert married Elizabeth Sharp on 28 September 1780 in Romsey, Hampshire, England[4]

His portrait is owned by the National Galleries where he is described as Robert Stevenson, 1742 - 1822 Minister at Castle Hedingham Essex [5]

He passed away in 1822 and his will is available at the National Archives, entitled Will of Reverend Robert Stevenson, Minister of the Gospel of Castle Hedingham, Essex, Prob 11/1655/183 [6]

Robert was included in the Dissenting Academy at Homerton list, published in 1812, of the Ministers who had been educated there, and was shown as Robert Stevenson, under the patronage of The Society, settled at Castle Hedingham.
