John Stewart was born c1789, the son of John Stuart and Elizabeth Brown of Northesk, New Brunswick^{[1] [2] [3]}

On 30 Aug 1814 he married Elizabeth McLeod d/o John and Jane McLeod of Point aux Carr, Glenelg Parish, lived in Cassilis, then in Boom Road, North Esk Parish^{[1] [3]}, and their children included^{[4] [5]}
