He enlisted at London, Ontario in January 1915 and served with the Canadian Mounted Rifles. He was promoted to Lieutenant with the Canadian Light Horse in 1917. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal and Military Cross. He had influenza in 1919.
George Hunter Stirrett passed away at the Vision Nursing Home on Saturday February 20, 1982, age 91, husband of Vera Spurr, formerly of Front St. Father of Frank of Sarnia, Mrs. Dr. Ron (Mary) Martin of Owen Sound, Mrs. Gerald (Georgia) Helleiner of Toronto, 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brother of Dr. Roy Stirrett of Los Angeles. Funeral services will be held from the D.J. Robert Funeral Home on Monday February 22nd at 2:30 p.m. with burial at Hillsdale Cemetery in Petrolia. Sympathy may be expressed through the Cancer Society.[3]
