Biography

O. J. STOKER DIES. - Orrin Jefferson Stoker, 23 1/2 East Sixth, died Friday evening at 10:45 o'clock at his home. He had been in failing health for the past four years and had been critically sick for several months.

Funeral services will be Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Christian church at Hartford. Rev. C. H. Swartz, pastor of the Hartford Christian church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Hartford cemetery.

The casket will be open this evening at the Reeble-Wood Funeral home.

Mr. Stoker was born April 9, 1860, in Upper Sandusky, Wyandotte (sic) county, Ohio, the son of the late John and Rachel Bowsher Stoker. He moved to Kiowa county about 1883. He moved to a farm near Hartford in 1910 and came to Emporia in 1922.

Mr. Stoker married Martha McFarland near Muncie, Ill., in 1881.

He was married a second time to Mrs. R. Belle Greenlee in 1913 at Emporia.

Mr. Stoker's father was a Civil war veteran. He belonged to the National Guards in Danville, Ill., in 1881, and also at Wichita and Pittsburg. Mr. Stoker joined the I. O. O. F. lodge at Pittsburg in 1892 and the Grange in Emporia in 1914.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. R. Belle Stoker; four sons, Ed Stoker, of Ellsworth; J. R. Stoker, Hillside, Ariz.; Orrin J. Stoker, Smithville, Mo., and Joseph Will Stoker, of Osceola, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. Lois H. Lee, of Wichita, and a brother, J. T. Stoker, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio. A daughter, Lilly May Stoker, died in infancy. (Probably from The Emporia Gazette; no date found.)
