Clara Jane Story was born 18 Jul 1855 ^[1] in Cedar Co., Iowa, USA ^[2] to Francis Marion Story and Margaret Nestlerode. ^[1] She married Othniel Curtis "Curtis" Harding on 1 Sep 1875 in Keokuk Co., Iowa. ^[3]

Clara J. Story, born in Cedar county, Iowa, July 18, 1855, died at her late home in Everett, Washington, March 29, 1919; aged 63 years, 8 months and 11 days.

In her early childhood she came to Keokuk County, Iowa, later went with her father's family in 1574 to Kansas, returning same year to Iowa. She was united in marriage to O. C. Harding, Sept. 1, 1875. To this union was born five children: Mrs. Ora E. Churchill of Keswick, Iowa, Mrs. Mabel C. Hodge of Everett, Washington, Mrs. Faye L. Porter of Everett Washington and Roscoe M. Harding Of Everett, Washington. Jessie E died in infancy. Mrs. Hodge died six years ago. She leaves a sorrowing family of husband, three children and eight grandchildren. At the age of sixteen she united with the Baptist church, latter [sic] tarnsferring [sic] her Membership to the Protestant Methodist church at Springdale Iowa.

She lived to serve others in kindness and her works will outlive the praise of speech, as was shown by the many tokens of sincere respect by the beautiful tribute of flowers of her many friends and neighbors, the last but not, least tribute to one held in highest esteem.

She sleeps the sleep that knows no waking,

Yet leaves a soul life of brightest token,

The past, and future are our making

Along life's path before the thread is broken.
