Biography

Ora Elda HARDING was born July 30, 1876, at Springdale, near Keswick, (IA) the oldest daughter of Curtis and Clara Story HARDING.

When a small girl she moved to Keswick with her parents and resided there until shortly after her marriage, June 30, 1896, to James Andrew CHURCHILL. They moved to the farm home, which they built, two and one half miles northeast of Keswick, where she lived with the exception of one and one-half years spent at Everett, Washington, until her death, February 21, 1944.

Mrs. CHURCHILL had been in failing health for 13 years having been a semi-invalid for four years, during which time her husband gave her his constant and patient care. She was bedfast 10 days and passed away at the age of 67 years, six months and 22 days, at the home of her daughter, Doris. Her daughters were all at her bedside during her last illness, giving her every care humanly possible.

Many years ago she joined the Methodist church at Keswick, and was an active member until her health prevented. She was a charter member of the Keswick Rebekah lodge and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are her husband, James CHURCHILL and three daughters, Margaret (Mrs. H. J. HARVEY) of Newton; Juanita (Mrs. C. V. HOPWOOD, of Deep River; and Doris (Mrs. Osa COLLINS) who resides on the farm home near Keswick, and with whom Mrs. Churchill has made her home for five and one-half years; also two sons, Roscoe E. Churchill, of Alameda, California, and Warrant Officer Henry C. CHURCHILL of the U. S. Army, stationed somewhere in England and ten grandchildren, including Pvt. Jack N. HOPWOOD of the U.S. Army. Also living are a sister Faye (Mrs. J. Howard PORTER) and brother Roscoe HARDING, both of Everett, Washington, and two nieces, Mrs. Ray HILL of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Mrs. Ernest ST. AUBIN, of Everett, Washington.

Mrs. Churchill was a loving mother, always serving her loved ones, a true neighbor, ever ready to help where sickness or sorrow had entered and was a friend to all.

Ora and James had five children.
