Immigration: arrived September 1801 in Markham Township, York County, Ontario, Canada
Note
Note: Here is the Stover who brought our family to Canada. Peter Stover (b. abt. 1752) was the fourth of five children of Jacob Stover (b. August 6, 1717) and Elizabeth Longenecker. He married Margareth UNKNOWN (b. abt. 1754) in abt. 1775 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA. The couple had seven children. The first six children were born in Tinicum Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA. The seventh child was born in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, USA. Our Stover family of Markham, Ontario, Canada descends from Peter and Margareth and from their son, Jacob Stover (b. abt. 1779). Darren Arndt tells us that Peter had at least four brothers, three of whom are known to have stayed in Bucks County, Pennsylvania until their deaths. It seems Peter was the adventurous one of the family. He andhis family arrived in Markham from Pennsylvania around September, 1801. DarrenArndt goes on to report that `There is no known tombstone for Peter or Margareth. The only documentary evidence we have about them in Canada is Peter`s will which included his wife`s and children`s names. A few of his children now have well-researched family trees showing their descendants spanning two centuries. For two of his children, Mathias and Molly, all we know is their names.` Darren Arndt has kindly put the Will Of Peter Stover on the internet for all of us to read: `This document has been the key to building the family tree of Peter`s descendants, as it is the only known evidence listing Peter and Margareth`s children.` Thanks, Darren.
