Biography

Catharina married Abraham Delong (abt.1702-abt.1756), probably before November 14, 1731, when their daughter Elisabeth Long was born in Oley, Pennsylvania. [1] She is not named in that record, so it is possible that Elisabeth’s mother was someone else. No baptism records have been found for any of their other children.

Abraham died in about 1756, probably in Lynn Township, Northampton County (where his will was proved). Sometime after August 3, 1764 (when she is referred to as Catherine DeLong in a release from her children [2]) and before June 24, 1780, she married George Philip Wertman II (abt.1741-abt.1819) of Lynn Township. On June 24, 1780, she brought suit against him for abuse. The sureties were Matthias Delong (abt.1736-1788) and Martin Wertman. [3] George Philip died in about 1781 and she moved to Sunbury, Northumberland County with her youngest sons John DeLong (1737-) and Edward DeLong (1744-) . She granted a power of attorney to her son John on February 7, 1787. [4] She died before April 2, 1800 when John deeded property to his two sons Daniel and Henry, to pay them for a legacy from their grandmother Wertman. She is referred to in that deed as Catharina Wertman, late of Sunbury, the grandmother of Daniel and Henry. [5]
