Biography

Russell was born about 1774 (based on his enlistment papers). He is the son of Charles Sullivant and Rachel Unknown. He married Mary Bush on February 6. 1792 in Warren County, North Carolina.

He next moved to Caswell County, North Carolina as he is at many estate sales there and was a witness at the marriage of his sister Susannah Sullivan to Isaac Workman, October 11, 1799. He was named in his mother's will in Caswell County dated 1805.

At the age of 40, he was recruited to join the 39th Infantry, United States Army in Knoxville, Tennessee, on January, 1815 by Lt. Sommerville. He starts making land purchases in Davidson County, Tennessee in 1827 and is in the 1830 census for Davidson County, Tennessee. His death date is unknown but he is not found in the 1840 census.

He may have had the following children but more proof needs to be found for them: Chaney (her maternal grandmother's last name was Cheney), Bennett (he is in the 1820 Davidson County census), Joseph (he bought land in adjacent Sumner County in the 1820s and Y and autosomal DNA), Jesse (autosomal DNA) , Charles, William J. and Stephen (in the 1820 Davidson County census).
