Biography

James Sumner was born in about 1842 in Windle, Lancashire. He was the son of William Sumner and Sarah (Ashall) Sumner. His father was a farmer, who was farming a 21-acre farm by 1861. His birth was registered in the first quarter of 1842, in Prescot district.

James married Elizabeth Rigby in 1868 at St Helens Parish Church.
