Biography

Hannah Sweet was born in 1802, daughter of Dr. Waterman Samuel Sweet and Elizabeth (Hodges) Sweet.

Her siblings were:

2. Lydia Sweet
3. Maria (Sweet) Cornell
4. Samuel Sweet
5. Catherine Sweet
6. Waterman Sweet

Hannah firstly married Garrett Radley, sometime around 1818. They had five children together during their marriage:

1. Mary Radley, Born 1821^[1]
2. Susannah Elizabeth Radley, Born 1822^[2]
3. Philip Garrett Radley, Born 1828^[3]
4. Waterman Sweet Radley, Born 1832^[4]
5. Henry Rankle Radley, Born 1837

Hannah's husband died on the 5th of March, 1848^[5]; leaving Hannah a widow. In the 1850 US census, Hannah (age 46) is living in Florida, Montgomery, New York with her three sons: Philip, Waterman and Henry. The family also has a boarder living with them called Peter Palinaties.^[6]

Sometime after 1850 Hannah remarried to Ichabod Potter. In the 1860 US census, Hannah (age 58) is living in Amsterdam, Montgomery, New York alone with her husband.^[7] In the 1875 New York state census, Hannah (age 72) is living in Amsterdam, Montgomery, New York with her husband in the household of her husband's son John Kenyon Potter and his family.^[8]

In the 1880 US census, Hannah (age 77) is living in Amsterdam, Montgomery, New York with her husband Ichabod.^[9]

Hannah died on 11 August 1884 aged ~82.^[10] She was buried at Chuctanunda Cemetery in Minaville, Montgomery, New York.^[11]
