Lionel Swift was born in about 1801-1804 in Eccleston, Lancashire (according to 3 censuses) or in Sutton, Lancashire (according to one).

Lionel married Ellen Howard on 1 Feb 1832 at St John's Church in Liverpool, Lancashire. He was a joiner, she was a spinster; both were of the parish of Liverpool. The witnesses were H. J. I. Parr and William Richardson.

Ellen probably died in 1880 in St Helens, aged 69.

Lionel died in 1884 in St Helens, Lancashire, aged 83.

Baptism

Lionel was NOT christened on 30 Mar 1806 at St Thomas' Church in Upholland, Lancashire, the son of Thomas Swift, a blacksmith of Orrell.^[1] That Lionel died in 1809, and was buried on 18 Nov 1809 at St Thomas the Martyr Church in Upholland; his father was named as Thomas Swift, blacksmith of Orrell (and his name was spelled Linel in the burial record).^[2]
