Biography

First communion in Paige, Texas on March 14, 1884.

Obituary from Giddings Deutsches Volksblatt, Feb 19, 1931, Giddings, Texas, USA Mrs. Emma Faske: On Monday morning, Mrs. Emma Faske, nee Symmank, passed away in her home in Ledbetter after a long painful suffering. The deceased was born on June 14, 1869 in Germany and came at the young age of 15 with her parents to America, who settled near Giddings and Lincoln. She was baptized and confirmed in Germany. In 1889 she married Mr. Wm. Raschke, from this marriage came six sons and one daughter, who now mourn the death of their mother. In 1904, Mr. Raschke died, it was a severe blow for the mother to provide for the surviving family of mostly still small children. After five years of widowhood, she married for a second time with Mr. Traugott Faske. A little daughter came of out this marriage; but she preceded her mother in death at a tender age. Mr. and Mrs. Faske spent the last years in Ledbetter, where they had purchased a small home and had retired. Help against the suffering was sought on several occasions and the doctor in Carmine advised to go to the hospital in Temple for a thorough investigation, which was followed, the message was not very encouraging. The doctors said the illness as already too far advanced to be able to help. The deceased reached the age of 61 years and some months. In addition to the widowed husband, the seven children are mourning her: Wilhelm in Brenham, Ernst in Houston, Frank in Manheim, Otto in Vernon, Albert in Walburg, Heinrich at Serbin, Clara, married to Reinhart, living in Del Valle. One brother, Mr. R. Symmank. Two brothers preceded her in death. A sister, Bertha Müller in Dickerson, Ernestine Fichte in Lincoln. Mr. Symmank of Lincoln, 22 grandchildren and other relatives. The funeral ceremony took place on Tuesday, officiated by Paster W. Müller. -- translated by Tony Mack
