John Tait, son of George Tait and Isobel Henderson, was born about 1801 and baptised in Watten, Caithness, on 16 March 1801.[1]
John Tait, resident of Lynegar, Watten, married Janet Calder, resident of Brea(?), in the parish of Bower, Caithness, on 10 July 1824. Banns were read 25 June 1824.[2]
John and Janet had several children in Watten. At some point prior to 1847, (i) Janet died and (ii) John re-located his family to Wilton, Roxburghshire.
Christian Gordon married John Tait in Wilton, Roxburghshire, in 1847.[3]
In 1851 John was living with Christina and his children George, Jessie, Magnus and Christina in Wilton, Roxburghshire. John's trade was "grocer".[4]
