Research Notes

My primary searches are for the parents of my grandfather and my mothers grandparents. My grandfather is Charles LeBaron Clarke b jul 8, 1841 at Saint John, N.B. He lived most of his life at Fredericton Junction, N.B.where he died Dec 15,1924. He was a railroader working on various lines in N.B. ending up with the CPRailway.

My mother was Sarah Edna Tapley b May 11,1898 in Waterville, N.B. When she married (Donald Gilbert Clarke Sept 28, 1921) she dropped the Sarah and became Edna Tapley Clarke. She died in Unionville, Ont. Mar 21,1987. My mother's parents were Alexander Tapley and Georgie Weeks. They are supposed to be buried in a cemetery at Temperance Vale, N.B. Alexander Tapley died in 1908. -- Charles L. Clarke 17 gen 2000 12.00 GMT

Charles: You and my husband are cousins! His grandfather was Charles Gordon Tapley, son of Alexander and Georgie (Weeks) Tapley, and brother to your mother - Sarah Edna Tapley Clarke. Alexander Tapley, born about 1866, was the son of Asa Tapley and Elizabeth Lint of Queensbury Parish, York Co NB. He married Georgie Weeks, b abt 1874 to George and Sarah Weeks, on April 8, 1896 in Houlton Maine. Georgie and Alexander are buried at Temperance Vale Baptist Church cemetery. Georgie died Nov 18, 1905 age 32 years old. Alex remarried in 1906 to Mabel Raley or Kaley. He died April 15, 1908 aged 42. Charles Gordon Tapley joined the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in 1915 - lying about his age (he was 15) telling them he was 18. He listed his sister Sarah Edna Tapley as his next of kin. I have additional information about this and earlier generations of Tapleys and Lints that I would be happy to share. I would love to hear more about your mother and family as well. Kathy -- Kathryn Nourse 28 mag 2001

Charles: George and I were delighted to hear from you!! It was fun to hear you referring to his grandfather and grandmother as Uncle Charlie and Aunt Kay. I am eager to exchange additional stories and info with you. I am learning a lot about the ancestors of Alexander Tapley and Georgie Weeks thanks to several other cousins and to my own research. I would also love to hear more about the more recent generations from you. George would like to know what you might recall about "Uncle Charlie's" blacksmithing and ornamental ironworks projects. I will tell you more about his family privately through email. Is the above address still good? Kathy and George -- KathrynNourse 30 mag 2001 12.00 GMT

Great news! Thanks Kathy for your VERY interesting response to my query. Uncle Charlie (Charles Gordon Tapley) was a very favourite uncle of mine. When I was young my parents took us back to New Brunswick and Boston often to visit our relatives often as dad worked on the CPR and could get us trip passes on the railway. Those were very happy times before the war. Since then I have only been back there once. Shortly after that uncle Charlie moved to California and I have lost all contact with that part of our family. Aunt Kay wrote a letter shortly after uncle Charlie died in Valejo, CA. Also I understand that His daughter Edna and son Thomas have also passed away, but of 'little' Charles and Barbara I know nothing. I will be glad to share what I have with you and would dearly love any information on mother's parents, grandparents, etc. Mother passed away March 21, 1987 in Bethany Lodge, Unionville, Ontario and is buried in Resthaven Cemetery, Scarborough, Ontario. Dad passed away Oct. 3,1975 at Oshawa General Hospital, and is also buried at Resthaven. Just John and myself are left, Douglas was killed by a truck while riding his bicycle on Highway #7 Nov. 12, 1974. John is living at Irondale, Ontario with his wife Jean. They have 8 children, all grown up and away from home now. My wife Dolores live in Scarborough, Ontario and have 1 daughter, Beverley - who is married to David Freel - they have 3 children - all teenagers and living at home. I will give you more detailed information in future e-mails. Great to hear from you. Charles -- Charles Clarke 30 mag 2001

My grandfather is also Charles Gordon Tapley born in 1900 in Canada. Since your last name is Nourse I believe you are married to my cousin George. Would love to hear from you. Elaine -- DICELAY 17 feb 2012

Hi Elaine! Of course I have heard of you - you are the daughter of G's Uncle Charles and Aunt Betty. I met your mom years ago (along with a little dog too if I recall.) You are correct, I am married to your cousin George. He is interested in his family history but hates the detail work that research requires ... and I LOVE it :) These past 20 years I have learned a lot about your family and would have fun sharing and exchanging info with you. You can email me at kanourse52 @gmail.com. Look forward to hearing from you. Kathy -- kathrynnourse88 17 feb 2012 4.54 GMT [6]
