Birth
George Robinson Taylor was born on 21 August 1891 in Kilmore, County Down, Ireland. He was the son of Robert Hugh Taylor, a grocer (at the time), and Margaret E. Duncan. George's birth was registered in the Downpatrick registration district. [1] George may have been named after George Robinson, his father's maternal grandfather or after his father's brother of the same name: George Robinson Taylor.

Early life
George had eight siblings, including two older brothers who were born in New Jersey in the United States. George's parents had both emigrated to America around 1880 and had met, married and started their family in New Jersey. They returned to Ireland before the birth of George's sister Annie Jane Taylor.

In the 1901 Ireland Census, George, age 7, was living with his parents and siblings in Tullynacree townland in the parish of Kilmore. His father was working as a farmer. George was attending school. [2]

In 1908, George's sister Annie Jane Taylor, a full age spinster from Tullynacree, married John Hewitt, a full age bachelor farmer from Lissara, Kilmore. They were married in the Kilmore Church of Ireland parish church. They moved into Belfast where Annie's husband worked as a joiner and labourer. They had three children.

In 1910, George's older brother David Duncan Taylor died from acute tuberculosis and exhaustion at age 19. George's brother Thomas James Taylor was present at his death and was the informant for the death record.

In the 1911 Ireland Census, George, age 18, was boarding with his sister Annie Jane (Taylor) Hewitt and her husband at 19 Donard Street (Ormeau) in Belfast. George was working as a jeweller. [3]

Marriage
On 6 December 1917, George R. Taylor, a full age bachelor jeweller from Downpatrick, married Barbara Jeffery, a full age spinster from Belfast. They were married in the Belmont Presbyterian Church in the Parish of Holywood, County Down (Belfast). George's father was listed as Robert Hugh Taylor, a farmer. Barbara's father was listed as William Jeffery, a steward. Their witnesses were George's sister Ethel Victoria Taylor and Barbara's brother Thomas Jeffery. [4]

Their daughter Ruby Mary Taylor was born on 28 September 1918 in Downpatrick. George was listed as a watchmaker on her birth record. [5]

George's sister Margaret Elizabeth Taylor died from tuberculosis at age 24 in 1918. His brother Albert Taylor died from the same disease the following year, also age 24.

In 1921, George's sister Ethel Victoria Taylor, a 21-year-old spinster from Tullynacree, married Robert James Harris, a 23-year-old bachelor joiner from Kilmore. They were married in Kilmore Church of Ireland parish church. They lived in the Town of Crossgar and had nine children. They would emigrate to Australia after the Second World War.

George's paternal grandmother (his father's mother) Margaret (Robinson) Taylor died just before Christmas 1921 after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage nine months earlier.

Jeweller in Downpatrick
According to Ulster street directories for 1918, 1924 and 1943, George was recorded as a jeweller working in the Town of Downpatrick. In 1918, he was living on English Street. By 1924, he resided on Irish Street and was still living there in 1943. [6] [7] [8]

Death of parents
George's mother Margaret (Duncan) Taylor died about 1935.

George's father Robert Hugh Taylor died in 1946 at Tullynacree. On his death record, he was listed as age 87, a widower and farmer from Tullynacree. His cause of death was listed as myocarditis due to arteriosclerosis. His son Thomas J. Taylor, also of Tullynacree, was present at his death and was the informant for the death record.

The next generation
George and Barbara's daughter Ruby Mary Taylor married Hugh Collen. They had progeny.

Death
George died on 27 February 1962. His estate passed probate on 8 August 1962, naming his executors as Joseph Leslie Mitchell and Hugh Collen:
