Richard Henry 'Dick' Taylor (1853-1939) bought land adjoining his father's place. Dick broke the land suitable for farming with a walking plow pulled by oxen. As acreage increased, he used mules and horses with larger plows. He met the beautiful. blond Aura Jane Davenport and they were married in 1882. Dick built a log house on his father's place in which they lived until he could build a home on his own land. The lumber was hauled from Brownwood. The rough lumber cost $13.00 per thousand, the flooring and ceiling cost $15.00. The home consisted of two 16 X 16 rooms, each with a fireplace, a a wide hall between the two rooms, a long porch with a kitchen on one end. They enlarged it as the family increased to eleven children.
