Biography

John Taylor was a native of west Tennessee. He removed to what is now Clay county Arkansas about 1852, "coming in a wagon drawn by an ox team, and settled on a farm now owned by Robert Hawthorne, in Carpenter Township, where he made improvements and resided until about 1859. Then he removed to Howell county, Mo., and died there in 1866."[1] John Taylor married Sarah Carey likely about 1833 in west Tennessee. Three of the children of John Taylor and Sarah Carey are Alexander Taylor (b. abt 1834, Tennessee), Riley J. Taylor (b. April 1839, Tennessee), and Nancy Caroline Taylor Smith (b. abt 1848, Missouri.) John Taylor married second, likely about 1854, Mary Jane Reese. Five of the children of John Taylor and Mary Jane Reese are Martha Jane Taylor Crowder Blythe (b. abt 1855 Arkansas), Luther Bent Taylor (b. abt 1857 Arkansas), Adena Taylor (b. abt 1859 Missouri), Sarah A. Taylor Robbins (b. abt 1861 Missouri), and Nancy Susan Taylor (b. abt 1863 Missouri.) After the death of John Taylor, Mary Jane married James K. Polk Smith. Mary Jane Reese Taylor Smith died some time after 1870 and before July 1873, when JKP Smith married Sarah Melissa Gill.[2]
